State of Emergency is trending because Nigerians are asking Pres. Tinubu to extend his grace of emergency to Markudi, Benue State where locals are massacred weekly by alleged Fulani herdsmen.

Instead of recommending dialogue and reconciliation, unlike Rivers.
The president’s statement is perhaps attributed to legacy media describing the alleged ge/nocide as “communal clash over farmland lands”, which is contrary to what survivors claim.
However, reported fatality has hit 600+ in two months, with more than 3,000 displaced.
Two weeks ago, herdsmen stormed two communities and opened fire on all moving objects, death toll counted at 54. The attack started from 2PM till late in the night.
Following this, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, temporarily relocated to Makurdi, the Benue State capital to tackle the rising insurgence heads-on.
A week later, Benue recorded it’s deadliest attack yet.
Where more than 200 people were reported dead on Friday in Yelewata and Daudu communities in LGA. Apparently, the town got intel of an impending herdsmen attack.
Tragically, the attackers overpowered the youths, police, vigilantes and went straight to make shift IDP’s, opened fire, burning families in dozens.
Now, the IG of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has arrived Benue to deploy more tactical units to end the wanton killing.
But Nigerians don’t think it is enough.

They want a State of Emergency declared in Benue, just how Goodluck Jonathan did 2013. In 2013, President Goodluck Jonathan declared state of emergency in Adamawa, Yobe and Borno States over Boko Haram insurgence, but he didn’t suspend democratic structures.
Nigerians are saying the event happening in Benue is perfect for a SOE. But since there is no political interest in the state, it won’t be triggered by the President.
SOE was declared in Rivers State after a series of distant blasts, alleged to be pipelines. FG cited the Governor’s inability to maintain peace and order in the state. — Even though there weren’t disorderliness in the state.
Now, Nigerian are saying, unlike Sim Fubara, Gov. Alia Hyacinth can’t maintain order in the state, hence the urgent need for SOE, not reconciliation.
