Various online sources have reported that at least seven students of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, located in the Orumba North local government area of Anambra State, were shot today, Thursday, June 19, 2025, by unidentified gunmen. Four casualties have been reported, while the remaining students are in critical condition at local hospitals.

Additionally, it has been reported that some lecturers may have been kidnapped during the attack.
A viral video showed two of the victims—a male and a female student—lying in a pool of their own blood and gasping for breath in what is believed to be a hospital.
The Anambra State Police Command has yet to issue any statement regarding this shocking incident. The past few months had been relatively peaceful in the state since the government launched the Operation Udogachi security initiative.
With the Anambra State gubernatorial election approaching on November 8 of this year, the government and security agencies will need to reevaluate their security measures. It is also crucial for the perpetrators of this violent act to be identified and prosecuted promptly to restore confidence among the students of the polytechnic and the people of Anambra in the state's security
